Outlook Express was discontinued after Version 6.0 SP3 for XP and was replaced by Microsoft Live Mail with the release of Microsoft Vista. Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 are the only two versions of Outlook currently supported by Microsoft. While some copies of a standalone version of Outlook 2007 were sold in early 2007, installations generally requires purchasing a version of Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010. Microsoft Office stores files in a .PST format that can be exported and then imported into a newer version of Outlook. However, exporting a newer .PST to an older Outlook may not work.

The current version of Internet Explorer is Version 8. Version 8 is preinstalled on Windows 7. Internet Explorer 7 can still be downloaded from Microsft's website, but may be retired soon. Customers using Windows operating systems older than XP are limited to using Internet Explorer 6, however Microsoft has stopped all support and downloads of Internet Explorer 6.
